ORONO – The University of Maine has hired Calvin Oldham to be an assistant men’s basketball coach and has promoted seven-year assistant Ted Woodward to the position of associate head coach.
Oldham, who was a player scout for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA last season, coached in the German Professional League for 10 years, four of those as head coach for TSV Bayer04. Oldham also played in the league for SSV Ulm from 1983-90 and 1992-95 before retiring as a nine-time all-star and the fourth-leading scorer in GPL history. His playing career also included a stint in the Continental Basketball Association with Wichita Falls.
The 1982 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University graduate has a degree in business management.
Woodward has been a solid recruiter for the Black Bears and was recognized by peers as one of the top assistants in the country, according to TheInsidersHoops.com. The native of Suffern, N.Y., earned his bachelor of arts degree from Bucknell in 1986 and a master’s degree from Connecticut in 1989. Prior to joining the UMaine staff, he was an assistant and recruiting coordinator for Mark Adams at Central Connecticut State University for five seasons.
