UNION – A talk about the Epping Plains base line is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and will be of interest to fans of mapping, geology and history.

Nancy Willey will explain the line, which dates from the 1850s, during a presentation at the People’s United Methodist Church just off the common on Depot Street.

The line was established in the 1850s through the Eastern states. The Maine section is between Columbia and Cherryfield, where markers still remain. Current technology has proved the mid-19th century measurements to be in error by just 1 inch.

Call Beverly Cotton at 785-4740 if you plan to attend.
