Pet parade to highlight Brewer Days Festival

BREWER – One of the highlights of this year’s Brewer Days Festival Sept. 12-13 will be a pet parade sponsored by Bear Brook Kennels. Pets of all sizes and varieties are welcome to join, and are eligible for prizes in a number of categories, including most unusual, most patriotic, best pet and owner matching costume.

The parade will begin at the Brewer Municipal Pool and proceed down Wilson Street, around Doyle Field and back to the pool via State Street.

All pets must be pre-registered. For information contact the Brewer Parks and Recreation Department at 989-5199, or Amanda Ireland at Bear Brook Kennels at 989-6927.

Featured entertainment will include local talents such as Julie and the Bug Boys music for children and families, The Zoot Suit Revue, Bruce Nye, “The Elvis Guy,” and the Brewer Hometown Band.

The schedule for the Brewer Days “A Hometown Celebration” is:

Friday, Sept. 12

. 5-8 p.m. Brewer Hockey Association spaghetti supper, Brewer Auditorium seniors room.

. 8-9:30 p.m. Family Fun Night with Cumulus Broadcasting, auditorium gymnasium.

Saturday, Sept. 13

. 7-9 a.m. Brewer Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast, auditorium seniors room.

. 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Brewer Farmer’s Market, auditorium parking lot.

. 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Brewer Recreation youth soccer, Doyle Field and Maple Street Park.

. 9 a.m. Pet parade, Wilson Street, sponsored by Bear Brook Kennels. Awards for animal costumes.

. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Brewer Business & Organization Expo, auditorium gymnasium.

. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Children’s Carnival, auditorium parking lot. Features children’s games, pumpkin painting, bounce house, face painting, dunk tank, giant slingshot, Brewer Police and Fire Department exhibits.

Special activities and shows:

. 9:30 a.m. Lawn mower driving obstacle course, ages 18 and older, auditorium parking log.

. 10 a.m. Pumpkin bowling, ages 12 and under, Doyle Field.

. 10:30 a.m. Frying pan throwing contest, ages 18 and older, Doyle Field.

. 11 a.m. Julie and the Bug Boys, demonstration area. Presented by Trans-Tech Industries.

. 11:30 a.m. Taste of Fall cook-off judging, auditorium stage. Open to all ages. Entries must be submitted by 10:30 a.m.

. Noon. Zoot Suit Revue, Back Door Dance Studio, auditorium stage.

. 1 p.m. Bruce Nye, “The Elvis Guy,” demonstration area. Presented by Trans-Tech Industries.

. 1:30 p.m. Children’s money grab, ages 10 and under, auditorium stage.

. 3:30 p.m. Brewer Hometown Band Concert, Auditorium stage.

. 4 p.m. Brewer Citizen of the Year Award, auditorium stage. Intermission of the Brewer Hometown Band concert.

Officials of Brewer Days said they thank several businesses and organizations for helping make Brewer Days possible: Bear Brook Kennels, Brewer Boosters Club, Brewer Federal Credit Union, Brewer Kiwanis Club, Brewer Key Club, Brewer Youth Hockey, Cumulus Broadcasting, The Weekly, Trans-Tech Industries and Wal-Mart.
