KENNEBUNKPORT – Authorities on Friday recovered the body of a Kennebunk man who drowned in the waters off Goose Rocks Beach. Gerhard Ellenberg, 63, apparently left a note Thursday night saying he was going swimming and never returned, said Sgt. Steven Shisler of the Kennebunkport Police Department.

A search began at 9:15 a.m. Friday after Ellenberg did not show up to work, Shisler said.
