HERMON – Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders capped a championship season with an impressive win in the final Pro Stock Feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Saunders started in the back of the field and maneuvered to the front along the inside groove in the 35-lap event.

HERMON – Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders capped a championship season with an impressive win in the final Pro Stock Feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

Saunders started in the back of the field and maneuvered to the front along the inside groove in the 35-lap event.

Town Hill’s John Phippen finished second with Surry’s Dwayne Overlock, Etna’s Mike Thomas and Hermon’s Dale Swoboda rounding out the top five.

Saunders claimed the points title by 132 points over runner-up Overlock. Stockton Springs’ Duane Seekins wound up third, 15 points behind Overlock.

Unity Raceway

At Unity Saturday, Deer Isle’s Matt Eaton expanded his points lead to 18 over Sidney’s Chris Thorne by posting his sixth Super sportsman feature triumph.

Morrill’s Jake O’Brien had finished second but his car failed the post-race inspection so he was disqualified.

Oakland’s Ricky Burgess Jr. became the runner-up and completing the top five were Thorne, Fairfield’s Joe Ritchey and North Vassalboro’s Ed Drake.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway

At Scarborough Friday night, Troy Graffam of Sanford outdueled the rest of the field to take the checkered flag in the Wildcat feature.

Eight drivers began the feature just one point apart but the points champion won’t be determined until there is a complete check of the points and finishes.

Steve Benincasa finished second in Friday’s race; Dan Wink of North Berwick was third. Alfred’s Mike Nest and Saco’s Bobby Holly rounded out the top five.
