UMM men shut out MMA

CASTINE – Brett Howarth scored three goals in the final 12 minutes to lead the UMaine-Machias Clippers to a 4-0 men’s soccer win over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners Tuesday.

Mike Ziedler scored a first-half goal for 1-3 UMaine-Machias. Pat Morgan made four saves on six shots.

Joshua Heath and Derek Schweitzer combined to make eight saves on 24 shots for 0-1-1 Maine Maritime Academy.

Bates 3, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington, Dan Bradford racked up three goals to lead the 1-1 Bobcats past the Beavers.

Alex Wolff assisted on Bradford’s first goal. Bradford got an unassisted score and then put one in on a penalty kick. Chris Mansfield didn’t have to make a save on any of UMaine-Farmington’s four shots.

Noah Peet stopped three of eight shots for the 0-1 Beavers.

Women’s soccer

So. Maine 2, Saint Joseph’s 1

At Standish, Lauren Gagnon scored on the rebound of a Kelsey Shamano shot with 18 minutes left, lifting the Huskies to victory over the Monks.

Eva Hanson scored on a Devin Edwards assist for 3-0 Southern Maine to back Rachel Kwantz, who made two saves on four shots.

Tiffany Miller scored off a Michelle Crisp assist for 0-3 Saint Joseph’s. Cheryl Northrop made 16 saves on 20 shots.
