AUGUSTA – Special ceremony to honor first responders and other emergency service personnel who died on Sept. 11, 2001. Gov. John E. Baldacci will be the featured speaker at the event, which also will honor active, reserve and retired members of the military who have served at home and abroad during the last two years. Governor’s remarks to be followed by musical selections from Falmouth High School students and the Maine Army National Guard. Ceremonies begin 9:30 a.m. today on the Blaine House lawn.

BANGOR – “Remembering Those Who Perished on 9-11-01,” Intercessory Prayer Session, 12:30 p.m. today, All Souls Church, 10 Broadway. Prayer service at 6:30 p.m., St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 754 Ohio St.

ELLSWORTH – “The Guys,” a film about a fire captain who lost eight men in the collapse of the World Trade Center and the editor who helped him write the eulogies, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. today at The Grand Auditorium in Ellsworth. For information, call 667-9500.

FORT KENT – Poetry reading, 3:30 p.m., Bengal’s Lair student lounge, Cyr Hall, University of Maine at Fort Kent, followed by a peace walk at 4:30 p.m. to promote unity, sponsored by University of Maine at Fort Kent Student Diversity Programming. HOULTON – Moment of silence, 8:46 a.m., Houlton Fire Department.

MADAWASKA – Moment of silence, 9:58 a.m., Fire Department assembly at fire station, sounding of evacuation siren. The public is welcome to participate.

ORONO – Honor guard ceremony beginning at noon at flagpole in front of Department of Public Safety at the University of Maine.

PRESQUE ISLE – Ringing of Campus Center chimes, 8:46 a.m. and 9:58 a.m., University of Maine at Presque Isle.
