HOULTON – The Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians will receive $105,804 in federal grant funding, according to an announcement made Wednesday by U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

The funding, distributed as a “STOP Violence Against Indian Women Discretionary Grant,” will assist initiatives within the tribe, including crisis intervention, safety planning, counseling, safe housing assistance and referrals to victims of domestic violence.

The federal grant was awarded by the Office of Violence Against Women under the U.S. Department of Justice.
