A driver who fell asleep at the wheel and hit a utility pole on the Kelly Road in Orono knocked out power to 96 customers in the area early Saturday morning.

Power was restored an hour and fifteen minutes later, according to a spokeswoman for Bangor Hydro-Electric Co.

Anthony Saucier, 23, of West Enfield was alone in his 1994 Nissan Sentra driving east on Kelly Road toward the Interstate 95 interchange when he nodded off shortly after 1 a.m. About a quarter-mile west of I-95, his vehicle left the road, snapped the pole and rolled over several times down an embankment before stopping.

Saucier was treated for a minor hand injury at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor and released.

A Bangor man spent a night in Penobscot County Jail after a fight over dirty dishes apparently turned physical.

Ricky L. Waugh, 48, was arrested at a York Street apartment and charged with domestic assault shortly before midnight Saturday. He was released on bail Sunday.

Waugh told Bangor police Officer Brad Hanson that he did not mind spending the night in jail when he arrived on the scene. The man was asleep on the couch when the officer entered the apartment. Dirty dishes were on the kitchen floor and a chair was tipped over, according to Hanson’s report.

The 45-year-old woman who called police said that she and Waugh got into an argument over the dishes, according to the report. She said that Waugh backhanded her.

Waugh was “very intoxicated,” according to Hanson’s report.
