PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Maine volleyball team went 1-3 at the Portland State Invitational tournament after Chicago State won three straight games and rallied for a 3-2 win in the last match of the tourney on Saturday.
The Black Bears, now 6-4 overall, lost 3-1 (30-26, 30-23, 24-30, 30-26) Friday night to British Columbia and 3-2 (19-30, 28-30, 30-27, 30-24, 15-12) to Chicago State.
On Saturday, Leah Guidinger led the Bears with 20 kills and 12 digs while Kaili Jordan added 18 kills and 13 digs. Carmen Gabriel had 12 and 10, respectively, along with 29 set assists. Shelly Seipp led the team with 30 sets.
Five players had 10 kills or more for Chicago State, now 1-7. Vanessa Nicholson led the team with 62 sets and Andrea Rose had a game-high 21 digs.
On Friday, Gabriel paced the Bears with 21 kills, 10 sets, and 10 digs. Guidinger had 12 kills and Seipp led the way with 26 sets.
Amy Schroeder led 2-0 British Columbia with 39 setsand Emily Cordonier had 16 kills and eight digs.
