Dog saved from culvert has puppies Bull mastiff gives birth just hours after rescue

PITTSFIELD – Less than 24 hours after she was stuck in a culvert for several hours last week, a Pittsfield bull mastiff has successfully given birth to puppies.

Keena, owned by Kathy and Scott Sinclair, apparently was looking for a place to deliver her pups when she became wedged in a dirt-filled culvert on Berry Road in Pittsfield.

After her ordeal, she was checked and cleared by a veterinarian because she was due for a Caesarean section later in the week, but was in full labor by that evening, reported Kathy Sinclair.

“She actually did go into labor after being stuck in the culvert and did not wait for her c-section,” said Sinclair. “She started giving birth around 5:30 Friday morning. She had four pups at home and then went to the vet for the c-section and had seven more. We lost one, and ended up with 10 very healthy puppies! They are all doing very well and everywhere we go people are asking how she made out and if the puppies were alright from her ordeal.”

Sinclair was relieved. “It’s so hard to believe that she was stuck in the culvert with all those puppies inside and no harm came to them at all. Thank God that it was a great outcome to her story,” she said.
