Commissioners revise coordinator’s duties

ROCKLAND – Knox County commissioners tweaked the job description for a domestic violence coordinator position Wednesday in anticipation of filling the vacant post.

The position has been vacant since earlier this month when Michael Middaugh, the first person to hold the post at the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, resigned.

Meeting with commissioners, Sheriff Dan Davey agreed with Commissioner Anne Beebe-Center’s suggestions to add “monitoring compliance with bail conditions and protection orders” to the job description.

Commissioners were on the verge of voting to advertise the opening when Davey related that two current patrol employees are interested in the job. Commissioner Lawrence Nash said in-house applicants should be considered before the post is advertised, saying that promoting from within is good for morale.

Beebe-Center will represent commissioners on the panel that interviews the applicants.

The county budgeted $32,198 for the position in an early draft of the 2004 budget.
