MMA women record 2 weekend victories

BOSTON – The Maine Maritime Academy Mariners rolled to a 7-0 victory over Wheelock on Saturday and shut out Lesley 2-0 on Sunday in women’s soccer action.

On Saturday, Amy Asselin scored four goals, a school record, and added an assist for 4-0 Maine Maritime. Jessie Taylor scored two and assisted on one. Ashley Brooker added a goal plus an assist. Meghan Marshall had six saves on seven shots.

Jess Stacy stopped 10 out of 41 shots for 0-6 Wheelock.

On Sunday, Taylor scored twice on assists from Asselin and Ashley Douglass. Marshall had five saves on eight shots for the 5-0 Mariners.

UM-Presque Isle splits

At Presque Isle Sunday, Tara Cropley, Monique Daniel and Lukie Gagnon each scored three goals as the Owls rolled to a 14-3 win over St. Joseph’s (Vt.). Lyndon State edged the Owls 3-2 Saturday.

UM-Fort Kent sweeps

At Fort Kent Sunday, Megan Foreman scored on a chip shot from about 25 yards out just two minutes into overtime to lift the Bengals to a 2-1 victory over Lyndon State. UMFK rolled over St. Joseph’s (Vt.) 9-3 Saturday.

West Conn. 2, So. Maine 0

At Gorham, Lia Pellegrino-Young scored the eventual game-winner in the second half as the Colonials blanked the Huskies.

Marcy Ansley stopped seven out of 15 shots for 3-2-1 Southern Maine.

UM-Farmington 2, Elms 1

At Chicopee, Mass., Julia Malek scored an unassisted goal at 85:24 of the second half to propel the Beavers to the win on Saturday.

Andrea Stevenson added an unassisted goal for 2-1 UMF and Patty Boutin had three saves on eight shots.

Andrea Stevenson scored 2-3 Elms’ lone goal.

Trinity 2, Colby 1

At Waterville Saturday, Sara Thiede scored with 5:41 to play as Trinity held off Colby.

Kate Salottolo added a goal for the 4-0 winners.

Laura Williamson scored for the 1-0-1 White Mules and Amanda Walsh had the assist. Elizabeth Riley stopped five out of seven shots.

Husson 5, Lesley 0

At Medford, Mass. Saturday, Leah Drew made six saves on eight shots to earn her second shutout of the year as the Braves rolled.

Deidra Ham and Kristin Pelletier each scored a goal for 3-3 Husson of Bangor. Beatriz DeYcaza scored twice and Kaylie Caron added another goal. Pelletier and Shaina Goode each had an assist.

Sarah Wedge made 22 saves on 32 shots for 1-5 Lesley.

Maine 2, UMBC 0

At Baltimore Sunday, Kim Walsh scored the eventual game-winner off a Annie Hamel pass for the 6-1 Black Bears.

Hamel added a goal later in the second half for 6-1 Maine. Tanya Adorno made three saves on five shots.

Robin Barbaris had 11 saves on 15 shots for the 0-4 Retrievers.

UM-Farmington 3, Becker 1

At Leicester, Mass. Sunday, Erin Campbell and Jodie Welch combined on two goals to power the Beavers.

Campbell scored twice with two assists from Welch, who scored off a pass from Erin Findlan. Patty Boutin stopped one of four shots for 3-1 UMF.

UM-Machias 1, St. Joseph’s 0

At Machias Saturday, Christina Rich scored at 31:20 of the first half to lift the Clippers to victory.

Sara Ricker made nine saves for 3-3-1 UM-Machias while Shana Howard had five for the 1-5 Monks.

Elms 1, Thomas 0

At Chicopee, Mass. Sunday, Shelly Fournier’s second-half goal proved to be the winner.

Shauna Lessard stopped 14 shots for 1-4 Thomas.

Husson 7, Wheelock 1

At Boston, Deidra Ham scored three goals and Beatriz DeYcaza added two as Husson topped Wheelock.

Kristin Pelletier and Danielle Billing added single goals. May Chan chipped in with two assists, while Ham, Pelletier, DeYcaza and Kaylin Caron had single assists. Leah Drew and Ashley Robar combined to make six saves on seven shots.

Volleyball

Connecticut 3, Maine 0

At Orono Saturday, Jamie Hadenfeldt had 11 kills and just two errors as the Huskies cruised past the Black Bears 30-9, 30-23, 30-26 en route to a win in the Maine Invitational.

Megan Crawley had seven kills and three service aces for Connecticut. Hadenfeldt was named the MVP.

Randi Olin and Kaili Jordan each had 12 kills for Maine. Jordan added 12 digs and Shelly Seipp had 39 assists. Brittany Howe was the only Black Bear named to the all-tourney team.

Field hockey

Maine splits with Tigers, Hoyas

At Towson, Md. Sunday, Ashley Bacon knocked in the game-winner in the second half as Towson beat the Black Bears 2-1, snapping Maine’s four-game winning streak. The Bears beat Georgetown 3-2 in overtime Saturday in Washington, D.C.

In Sunday’s game, Julie Lambi scored 1:47 into the game for 5-2 Towson and Loren Wolf made 11 saves on 15 shots.

Karly Bundy tied the game for 5-2 Maine in the second half. Traci Rainone assisted on the goal and Jaye Lance stopped four of nine shots.

In Saturday’s game, Bundy scored an unassisted goal with 13:47 left in overtime to lift the Black Bears.

Bundy scored the first goal of the game 3:27 into the first half off an assist from Rebecca Ouellet. Kasey Spencer added a goal in the second half to give Maine the lead after Georgetown tied it. Lance made four saves on 14 shots.

Husson 3, Lasell 2

At Bangor, Karole Emery scored two goals in the second half to power the Braves.

Nicole Palmer knocked in a goal off an assist from Sara McIntire and Erin Brown chipped with an assist. Jamie Giles had five saves.

Simmons 2, Husson 1

At Bangor Sunday, Caitlyn Lesard knocked in two penalty strokes in the first half as Simmons held off Husson.

Jenn Comeau scored off a Sara McIntire pass for the 2-2 Braves. Jamie Giles and Shani Hollins combined for 11 saves.

Men’s soccer

Maine 1, Dartmouth 1 (2OT)

At Hanover, N.H. Saturday, Justin Stockford scored on a free kick crossed from Cooper Friend seven minutes into the second half to tie the game, but neither the Black Bears nor the Big Green would score again.

Chad Mongeon made seven saves on 22 shots for UMaine.

Ron Daly scored for Dartmouth 26 minutes into the first half and Rowan Anders stopped one of three shots.

Elms 1, UM-Farmington 0 (2OT)

At Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Adriano dos Santos scored off a Kevin Chelo corner kick to give the 3-1 Blazers the win.

Josh McConnell had five saves for Elms while Noah Peet had nine for the 1-3 Beavers.

UM-Machias 4, St. Joseph’s 1

At Machias Saturday, four different Clippers each scored a goal as UM-Machias rolled.

Jesse Wignes, Brett Howarth, Matt Salyer and Steve Hill each netted a goal. Mike Zeidler had two assists and Jorge Tassar added another.

Peter Betting scored for the Monks of Standish.

Husson 4, UM-Machias 1

At Bangor Sunday, Shane Coffin scored a pair of goals to lead the Braves.

Kyle James had a goal and two assists for 4-2 Husson and Tyler Hews added a goal. Matt Goodman had 20 saves on 21 shots.

Matt Saylor scored off a Brett Howarth pass for the 5-4 Clippers. Pat Morgan stopped five out of 10 shots.

UM-Farmington 9, Becker 1

At Leicester, Mass. Sunday, Jeff Tatarczuk set up three goals and scored another as the 2-3-1 Beavers prevailed.

Brian Broderick scored twice for UMF and Adam Zukowski had two assists. Tim Ghelli, Adam Link, Matt Allen, Scott Tardiff, Kellen Brown and Tyler Hartshorn also scored.

Elms 5, Thomas 0

At Chicopee, Mass. Sunday, Adriano dos Santos had a goal and an assist, and four others each scored a goal, as the Blazers beat the Terriers.

Josh McConnell and Todd Petkus combined to stop five shots for 4-1 Elms.

Ryan Conrad made 13 saves for 2-5 Thomas.
