MADAWASKA – Douglas Bradstreet of Bridgewater was honored as the Firefighter of the Year during the 40th annual Maine State Firefighters Convention held Sept. 13.

Bradstreet was honored for service to his community through his commitment to the Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years. He has served as lieutenant, captain and driver during that time.

Bradstreet, whose sons and grandchildren also have served as firefighters, joined the Fire Department in 1952 as driver of a new 1952 Mack pumper, still used as a parade truck. He has answered hundreds of emergency calls during his time of service.
