McLean leads Calais to win against Tigers

CALAIS – Russell McLean scored off an assist from Gary Smiley in the second half to lift the Calais Blue Devils past the Tigers 1-0 in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Chris Woodside stopped 11 out of 13 shots to get the shutout for 4-2-2 Calais.

Josh Francis had 13 saves on 18 shots for 3-2-2 Shead of Eastport.

Machias 3, Woodland 1

At Woodland, Austin Roberts registered a hat trick as the Bulldogs downed Woodland.

Zack McNally and Isaiah Roberts added assists for 6-0 Machias. Marcus Frutney had 15 saves against 16 shots.

Adam Knowles scored an unassisted goal for the 1-5 Dragons. Aaron Moody stopped 19 out of 22 shots.

Rockland 2, Camden Hills 1

At Camden, Josh Lorenz scored both goals and Ryan Dow made 15 saves on 25 shots as Rockland upset Camden Hills.

Rockland is now 3-4 while Camden Hills fell to 6-2.

Lorenz converted a breakway off a Gary Harjula pass 20 minutes into the game to tie it up and he scored the game-winner from the penalty spot with three seconds left in the half.

Casey Stearns staked Camden to a 1-0 lead early in the game.

Andrew Rogers made one save on three shots for Camden Hills.

JV: Camden 7-0

Penobscot Valley 1, GSA 0

At Howland, Matt Cummings scored the game’s only goal off a pass from Jared Michaud as the Howlers upped their record to 4-2-4.

Josh Ireland stopped all 20 shots he faced for Penobscot Valley.

Mark Ensworth had 24 saves on 25 shots for the 3-4 Eagles of Blue Hill.

Piscataquis 4, Schenck 0

At Guilford, Chase Burdin knocked in two goals, one on a penalty kick, as the host Pirates blanked the Wolverines.

Joe Jardine tallied a goal plus an assist for Piscataquis Community. Mike Wharff added a goal and Jeff Robinson an assist. Josh Luellen stopped all 15 shots he faced and dished out an assist.

Chad Nelson had 16 saves on 30 shots for Schenck of East Millinocket.

MCI 3, Erskine 3 (2OT)

At Pittsfield, Caleb Landry scored one goal and was credited with an own-goal as the Huskies and Eagles battled to a double-overtime tie.

Mark Trombley added a goal and Chan Soo Ha an assist for 1-6-1 MCI. Tristan Goewey and Greg Duffley had 16 saves on 21 shots between them.

Duy Lyford, Graig Maybee and Derek Blondin tallied an unassisted goal each for 4-3-1 Erskine of China. Jason Hutchinson stopped eight of 11 shots.

JV: Erskine 2-0

Chop Point 2, Liberty 1

At Blue Hill, Drew Farrar scored both goals unassisted to lead Chop Point of Woolwich past the Liberty Lightning.

Tim Richter saved six of 10 shots for Chop Point.

Kai Bailey scored unassisted and Ian Riley made seven saves on 10 shots for the Lightning.

Greenville 7, Averill 0

At Hinckley Thursday, Corey Woodbury and Jimmy Gravelle had two goals apiece as the visiting Lakers cruised to victory.

Durgin McKusick, Kevin Lebel and Jordan Belmont also scored for 4-2-1 Greenville, while Brandon Lavigne made seven saves on nine shots.

Jake Russell made 23 saves on 35 shots for 1-5 Averill.

Girls soccer

Lee 4, Bangor Christian 0

At Lee, Shelby Pickering scored all four goals to lead the Pandas to the win.

Ashlee Gifford dished out two assists and Brett Thurlow added another for 8-0 Lee. Jackie Moors had seven saves on 16 shots.

Johannah Kutz blocked 23 out of 37 shots for the 3-5 Patriots.
