WALES – Chris Noyes rushed for two touchdowns and the Brewer defense limited host Oak Hill to minus-4 yards of offense after intermission as the Witches earned a 32-6 Pine Tree Conference Class B football victory Saturday.
The win lifts coach Ed Ortego’s club to 2-1 heading into Friday night’s home game at Doyle Field against undefeated Belfast. Oak Hill, which entered the game unbeaten, is also 2-1.
“It was an intense battle by both teams,” said Ortego. “They were undefeated, and they did not want to give that up.”
The Brewer defense forced three Oak Hill turnovers, two interceptions by Andy Frost and a fumble recovery by Tony Schwarze, and recorded three quarterback sacks for minus-37 yards.
Brewer outgained Oak Hill 268-98 in total yards. Brewer ground out 227 rushing yards on 47 carries, with Noyes gaining 60 yards on 15 attempts and Chris Fox gaining 43 yards on five tries.
Fox gave Brewer the lead early in the second quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run, and Dan Fox added the two-point conversion. Schwarze then recovered a fumble at the Oak Hill 3, and Court Rancourt scored on a 3-yard run. Kevin McAvoy kicked the extra point to extend the Brewer lead to 15-0.
Frost returned his first interception 26 yards to the Oak Hill 11 later in the period, and Noyes scored from 6 yards out. McAvoy’s kick made it 22-0.
Oak Hill got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter on a 1-yard run by quarterback Adam Labbe.
“They scored in the final minute of the first half, but we came out for the second half even stronger defensively,” Ortego said. “The second half was real pleasing.”
Noyes scored his second touchdown on another 6-yard run in the third quarter, with Dan Fox passing to Drew Francis for the two-point conversion. Sean Pulley capped off Brewer’s scoring by sacking Labbe in the end zone for a fourth-quarter safety.
