Martin wins $5,000 at Unity

UNITY – Carey Martin of Denmark won the $5,000 top prize by winning the New England Street Stock Championship at Unity Raceway on Saturday.

Martin, the 2003 Oxford Plains Speedway Limited Sportsman champion, took the lead on the fourth lap and bested a field of 39 cars for the victory. Chris Smith of Scarborough was second, followed by J.R. Baril of Haverhill, Mass., Puncin St. Clair of Liberty and Dan Sullivan of West Springfield, Mass.

Speedway 95

At Hermon, Speedway 95’s final race date of the 2003 season was postponed due to rain Sunday and rescheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.

The Oct. 5 card include the deciding races in several track divisions. Eric Worster of Lee leads Derek Pearson by 92 points in the Big Enduros class, while Bob Merchant of Lamoine leads Richard Burrill of Sullivan by 32 points in the Little Enduros. Billie Allen of Winterport holds a 19-point lead over Vicki Hollobough in the Ladies Division, and Brett Crosby of Hermon leads the Pickup standings by 10 points over Jim Carr of Clifton.

Busch North race postponed

At Stafford Springs, Conn., inclement weather forced postponement of Sunday’s Carquest Fall Final 150 NASCAR Busch North Series race until Saturday, Oct. 4.

Joey McCarthy earned the pole position for the race, sharing the front row of the starting grid with defending race winner Mike Johnson.

Cherryfield native Andy Santerre has a chance to clinch his second straight Busch North title at the Fall Final 150. With just two races left on the Busch North schedule, Santerre currently holds a 173-point lead over Mike Stefanik, with Kelly Moore 198 points back.
