Take time, be prepared

In our logging operation July 7, we had the misfortune of having one of our employees sustain severe neck and back injuries from a falling object.

Being in a remote area sometimes causes difficulties in receiving medical attention and transporting a patient to a medical facility. We rely heavily on the first aid training we receive until medical help can arrive.

LifeFlight of Maine and Primary Care Consultants played a crucial role in this case. Because of the efficiency, professionalism and promptness displayed by LifeFlight, and the hands-on training we received from Primary Care Consultants, we were able to transport the patient from the scene of the accident to an established landing zone without aggravating the severity of the injury. Within a short period of time the individual was on his way to a medical facility.

My advice to other remote operations such as ours is to take the time and be prepared for situations such as this. Make sure all your employees have proper first aid training and establish landing zones with coordinates for LifeFlight. It will make all the difference between life and death; believe me, in our situation it did.

On behalf of our company, Chopper One Inc., and the patient’s family, we would like to let you know, John, Paula, Sue, Kim and Dave, that we are most grateful for the fine quality of service you provided us.
