BANGOR – The Bangor Area Sewing Guild will sponsor seminars by Clotilde 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Ramada Inn, 357 Odlin Road.
Clotilde is the author of “Sew Smart” and the president of her mail order Sewing Notion Catalog, Clotilde.
She graduated from Miami University in Ohio, then worked in the 20th Century Fox Studios wardrobe department and a Beverly Hills boutique.
While raising her five children, she did alterations on expensive clothing and learned manufacturer’s sewing techniques. For five years she taught sewing classes at a fabric store in California.
Since 1977, she has shared her sewing knowledge around the world through her books, cable TV program, appearances on public television sewing shows and giving lectures.
“The mail order business just happened,” Clotilde said. “Originally I started selling some of my favorite tools and notions after seminars. I used my garage as a warehouse.”
The seminars Clotilde will conduct in Bangor are:
. “Insider Tips Revealed.”
. ” Designer Details Make the Difference.”
. “What to Do With These Things.”
Lessons will include how to eliminate facings on jackets and necklines, how to finish sleeveless dresses and jumpers by machine and how to use more than 40 unusual notions.
“For two years I hosted a show on cable TV, but the camera seemed very cold,” Clotilde said. “I missed the person-to-person contact that makes the seminars so much fun for me. I draw warmth for the people and I love to see their smiles. People who sew are wonderful – they’re so upbeat.”
The cost for a day of seminars is $50. Registration forms are available at area fabric stores and local public libraries.
