Houlton girls claim shutout against Calais McPartland, Thompson net goals

HOULTON – Amie McPartland and Claire Thompson scored first-half goals Friday as the Houlton Shiretowners posted a 2-0 girls soccer victory over Calais.

McPartland scored on an assist from Ashley Gard, while Thompson’s goal came on a penalty kick. Anna Lenentine earned the shutout by saving all three shots she faced for the 6-4-1 Shiretowners.

Stephanie Perry made 12 saves on 14 shots for 2-6 Calais.

Presque Isle 3, Ellsworth 0

At Ellsworth, Katie DeLong and Hilary Harvey tallied a goal each as the Wildcats remained unbeaten.

Presque Isle (9-0) also was credited with an own-goal. Melissa DeMerchant had six saves on eight shots.

Victoria Jones stopped nine out of 15 shots for the 2-4-3 Eagles.

JV: Ellsworth 2-1

Searsport 7, DI-Stonington 0

At Bangor, Nori Francis-Metzger knocked in four goals as the Vikings rolled.

Martha Landmesser, Theresa Cameron and Abby Tripp had a goal each for Searsport, and Aimee Nielson added two assists. Mo Hall had six saves on seven shots.

Whitney Haskell blocked 13 out of 30 shots for the Mariners.

Bangor Christian 2, Sumner 0

At Bangor, Jessica Dougherty scored on a Adrienne Ricci assist with 12:24 left in the first half to give Bangor Christian the lead and the win.

Ricci netted a goal in the second half on an Amber Leathers assist for 4-6 Bangor Christian. Johannah Kutz stopped both shots she faced.

Kylie Bragdon made 18 saves on 20 shots for 1-8 Sumner of East Sullivan.

Boys soccer

Calais 2, Houlton 1

At Houlton, Scott McDonald scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway with 2:42 left in the game to give Calais the come-from-behind victory.

Zack Gillespie tied the game on a McDonald assist 13 minutes into the second half for 5-4-2 Calais. Chris Woodside stopped six of seven shots.

Ian Pasquarelli netted an unassisted goal 17 minutes into the game for 1-8-1 Houlton. Eben Thompson made nine saves on 11 shots.

Camden Hills 0, Maranacook 0

At Camden, the Windjammers and Black Bears played to a stalemate through two overtimes.

Piner Markovchick had eight saves on nine shots for 9-0-1 Maranacook of Readfield.

Morgan Kerr saw nine shots and saved five for 6-3-1 Camden Hills.

Woodland 6, East Grand 0

At Woodland, Brandon Tomah registered a hat trick and Ben Leighton racked up two goals and two assists to lead the Dragons to the win.

Corey Phelan added a goal and Mark McLellan an assist for 2-7 Woodland. Aaron Moody and Todd Townsend combined to stop all seven shots they faced.

Ricky Parks and Brent Byers had 16 saves on 22 shots between them for the 0-8 Vikings of Danforth.

Machias 6, Narraguagus 0

At Machias, Chris Correll racked up two goals and two assists as the Bulldogs blanked the Knights.

Austin Roberts tallied two goals and an assist for 9-0 Machias and Drew Anderson added two more goals. Jamie McCarthy and Ken Morse each had an assist. Marcus Frutchey had four saves on six shots.

Josh Cook stopped 14 out of 20 shots for 3-7 Narraguagus of Harrington.

Calvary Chapel 9, Liberty 1

At Blue Hill, Brock Bradford had a hat trick with three goals to help lead Calvary Chapel of Orrington past Liberty.

Mike Cannon netted two goals for 5-3 Calvary Chapel and Kyle Bradford scored a goal and had an assist. Tyler Gans, Brian Miller and Jeremy Marth each had a goal and Tyler Gans made nine saves on 31 shots.

Eliah Thanhauser scored 0-5 Liberty’s goal and Ian Riley made 12 saves on 20 shots.

Bangor 1, Old Town 1 (2OT)

At Old Town, the Rams and Indians battled to a tie through two overtimes.

Bangor’s Dan Malmer and Old Town’s John Garrity scored unassisted goals five minutes apart in the second half.

Austin Smith made 15 saves on 16 shots for the 6-3-1 Rams, while Tyler Tracewski stopped 10 of 11 shots for the 7-0-2 Indians.

JV: Bangor 3-2

Highview Chr. 5, Chop Point 0

At Woolwich, Ricky Hughes scored a goal and had three assists to help lead Highview Christian of Charleston to the win.

Phiago Martinelli netted a goal and aided with an assist for the Knights. Anthony Kneeland, Cameron Smith and Nathaniel Richard each scored a goal. Aaron Waite and Andrew Richard combined to save all four shots that they faced for 7-1-1 Highview Christian Academy.

Alexander Levi made 14 saves on 23 shots for 3-5 Chop Point.

Field hockey

Dexter 9, Bangor 0

At Bangor, Vanessa Hartford knocked in three goals to help the Tigers remain unbeaten.

Megan Fogarty and Sarah Wyman added two goals each for 8-0 Dexter. Keriann Patterson and Brittany Veazie had a goal apiece. Cindy Koscielny had seven saves on 13 shots.

Bonnie Case saw 41 shots and saved 27 of them for the 1-7-1 Rams.

JV: Bangor 2-1

Orono 1, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Mari Lamb scored an unassisted goal in the second half to lift the Red Riots past the Indians.

Ana Blagojevic made one save on two shots for 4-5-1 Orono.

Kitty Campbell had two saves on three shots for 3-8 Old Town.

JV: Orono 1-0

Coaches and managers are urged to provide details for both teams when reporting games. First names of players on both teams as well as statistics are needed. Those not providing full details for both teams run the risk of the games not being published in the paper.
