Andy Santerre of Cherryfield clinched his second straight Busch North series points championship by finishing third in the CarQuest Auto Parts Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway Sunday.
Mike Johnson of Salisbury, Mass., won the race and pole-sitter Joey McCarthy of Randolph, N.J., was second.
The 35-year-old Santerre, who drives the Aubuchon Hardware/Brickmill Marketing Services Chevrolet for Bessey Motorsports, won three of the first four races en route to becoming the fifth driver to claim multi-year Busch North points championships.
“We’ve had a stellar year,” said Santerre in a Bessey Motorsports press release. “Man, this is everything we wanted, all we’ve worked for. A NASCAR championship is a dream come true to every racer, but to have been able to win back-to-back championships in such a competitive series is unbelievable to me.”
He praised the sponsors and team owners Joe and Nancy Bessey for their roles in the championships.
“This is the best deal I’ve ever had in racing,” said Santerre, who has a 173-point lead over Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I., entering Saturday’s series finale at Lime Rock Park (Conn.).
