Federal grants to fund HIV, addiction services

WASHINGTON – Three grants totaling more than $650,000, awarded by various federal agencies, will assist in supporting programs, including drug and alcohol addiction, throughout Maine.

The grants were awarded are as follows:

. $75,000 to the Regional Medical Center at Lubec Inc. for the “Coalition for Healthy Tomorrow” mentoring program. Awarded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, the federal grant is part of the national Drug-Free Communities Support Program and will be used for substance intervention programs within Washington County.

. $331,422 to the Maine General Health Associates in Gardiner for the “Ryan White Outpatient Early Intervention Services Program.” Awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the federal grant will assist in addressing the health concerns of those afflicted with HIV-AIDS.

. $249,997 to the New England Institute’s Addiction Studies program. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the federal grant will assist in the expansion of an adolescent treatment program for alcohol and drug addiction.
