BANGOR – The Bangor High School Rams turned in an impressive performance Wednesday night in a tuneup before Friday night’s game against undefeated Ellsworth.

Sophomore striker Dylan George scored second-half goals 50 seconds apart and set up Nick Larochelle’s goal just 1:06 into the game to lead the Rams to a 4-0 soccer win over rival Brewer.

Bangor, which received its other goal from junior striker Omar Conteh, extended its unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1) and improved its mark its mark to 8-3-1.

Bangor generated 41 shots at goal to Brewer’s five.

“We played pretty solid tonight,” said senior midfielder Larochelle. “We moved the ball well the first part of the first half. There was a little lack of energy the second part of the first half but we came back and played strong in the second half.”

“They’re a good team,” said Brewer coach Darren Hall. “They’ve played together a lot and they’re a lot better at anticipating. They seem to know what their teammates are going to do.

“Our guys react to a ball that their teammate hits but their guys are already making runs before their teammate hits the ball,” Hall added. “They really understand the game.”

“They pass well and attack the flanks well,” said Brewer senior stopper Brett Rees.

Larochelle’s goal shortly after the opening whistle came off a flank attack when George ran on to Sam Boss’s throw-in down the left wing and put it back to an unmarked Larochelle at the top of the penalty area.

“I had time to look up and see where the goalie was, he was toward the left corner of the goal and I put it toward the right,” said Larochelle, who found the corner to the left of Witch goalie Ben Davis, who had no chance.

Bangor thoroughly dominated the first half and Conteh expanded the lead off an Adam Towne corner kick.

Towne’s corner sailed to the far post where Boss headed it back into the goalmouth, leaving Conteh with a simple tap-in.

Bangor outshot the youthful Witches 17-0 in the first half.

Brewer played better in the second half but George salted the game away with goals at the 24:46 and 23:56 marks.

On the first one, George said, “Adam Towne passed it to me, I split their defense and toe-poked the ball past the goalie.”

George directed it to the left of Davis.

Fifty seconds later, he pounced on a loose ball in the area and tucked it to the right of Davis.

Austin Smith and Brian Tomassetti weren’t required to make a save for the Rams while Davis turned in a solid 13-save performance for 1-11 Brewer.
