BANGOR – The Junior League of Bangor has formed a yearlong partnership with My Choice Pregnancy Resource Center. The partnership maintains the league’s commitment to benefiting women and children, and focuses on at-risk expectant mothers and their children. The Junior League’s donation of $3,000 will benefit My Choice in assisting with shelter needs and expenses.
My Choice, a program of Maine Adoption Placement Service, offers emergency shelter and transitional assistance to homeless women facing an unplanned pregnancy. Supportive services include options counseling, prenatal and parenting education or adoption services.
The Junior League project plans include assistance with life skills training, a resource library, shelter refurbishment and fund-raising assistance. League members provided substantial assistance in May through a collection of needed shelter donations, an effort they plan to continue.
Melissa Huston, development coordinator for MAPS-My Choice, said, “We are delighted to partner with such a dynamic group of committed women. Their enthusiasm for our program and genuine interest in helping other women has been amazing. The impact of this partnership will be felt well beyond the calendar year of the project.”
Past successful Junior League projects include the Warren Center for Communication and Learning, Eastern Maine Medical Center’s pediatric unit and the Maine Discovery Museum.
The Junior League of Bangor is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
