Officer Chris Morley reported that he and Officer Brad Hanson went to a B Street address for a report of a domestic assault in progress.

Morley said they met with a woman who said she and her husband, Alejandro Moreno, 45, had gotten into a verbal argument that night. She said she then went to bed.

The woman told Morley that Moreno came to their bedroom 20 minutes later, grabbed her by her neck, and pulled her out of bed and down the hallway, according to Morley. She said Moreno let her go when she threatened to call the police.

Morley said the woman’s neck was red. She told him Moreno had been arrested a year before for domestic assault, but that the charges were dropped because she hadn’t testified.

Officer Hanson interviewed Moreno, who he said appeared intoxicated. Hanson said Moreno denied grabbing his wife.

Moreno was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

Veazie police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon for domestic assault.

Officer Mike Adams reported that he went to a Chase Road address for a family fight in progress. He found a man, Rick Chapman, a woman and a small child.

The woman’s neck was red and swollen, and she said Chapman had grabbed her after an argument about his drinking. Adams said Chapman appeared to be angry about the officer’s presence.

When Adams tried to arrest Chapman, he said, Chapman was combative and said, “I’m not going anywhere.”

After repeated refusals, Adams drew his irritant spray. Chapman then allowed himself to be handcuffed.

On the way to Penobscot County Jail, Adams said, Chapman began to cry and said he was sorry for everything. Chapman was charged with domestic assault and refusing to submit to arrest.

Veazie police arrested a Massachusetts man early Wednesday morning.

Officer T. J. Warner reported that at about 2:30 a.m. he saw a vehicle crest the hill on State Street, near Veazie Variety, at about 51 mph in a 35-mph zone.

Warner said he saw the car speed up as he began to follow it. The car stopped on the right side after moving to the oncoming lane and back.

Warner said he administered sobriety tests to the driver, Devin Reade, 23, of Colrain, Mass. Warner said he determined Reade was intoxicated and arrested him.

On the way to jail, Warner said, he stopped the cruiser when he found Reade wasn’t responding to his name. Warner said he found Reade slumped over in his seat with his tongue sticking out. He would not respond to attempts to wake him.

After a trip to Eastern Maine Medical Center, Warner took Reade to Penobscot County Jail. Warner said Reade repeatedly refused to sign a speeding summons.

While Warner was filling out paperwork, he said, he heard a scream and saw Reade being restrained by a corrections officer. Another corrections officer was holding the side of his own face.

Reade was charged with operating under the influence, operating without a license, refusing to sign a summons and assault.
