WASHINGTON – Six fire departments in Maine have been awarded federal grants to enhance their abilities to respond to fire and fire-related hazards in their communities.

The following fire departments received Assistance to Firefighter Grants:

. Searsmont Fire Department, $225,000;

. Monmouth Fire Department, $149,547;

. Brewer Fire Department, $137,088;

. South Bristol Volunteer Fire Department, $131,400;

. Dover-Foxcroft Fire & Rescue, $87,654; and,

. Bradford Volunteer Fire Department, $68,436.
