Fire destroys Dover-Foxcroft garage Owner’s son allegedly lost control of burning brush; charges possible

A brush fire apparently got out of hand early Saturday evening and caused the destruction of a nearby garage.

“A gentleman was burning some brush without a permit and it spread to his [father’s] garage and he burnt it down,” said Joe Guyotte, chief of the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department.

Range Road resident Paul Harrison lost his garage around 4:40 p.m. Saturday. His son, Jeff, who is in his mid-20s, apparently was burning the brush.

“He’s been burning on and off during the week without a permit,” said Guyotte. “I’ve already notified forestry so charges might be pending.”

The structure was considered a 11/2-car garage, said Guyotte, with enough room for a vehicle and storage.

A tanker from Guilford Fire Department assisted at the blaze.

Two apparent break-ins at Bangor area storage facilities were reported to law enforcement officials Saturday.

A burglary at a storage facility on Kennebec Road was reported to Hampden police Saturday afternoon. Sgt. Daniel Stewart said that a $12 battery charger was the only item reported missing but that the locks were broken off two storage units.

The lock appeared to have been pried off a unit at a storage facility on Cold Brook Road in Hermon, according to Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Mallory. The apparent break-in was reported about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Mallory said it was unclear what, if anything, had been taken. The burglary is under investigation, he said.

A dog apparently caused a single-vehicle accident Saturday in Medway, injuring two teens, according to official reports.

“A 1992 Ford Probe was traveling south on Route 116 with two 18-year-old female occupants,” East Millinocket Police Department Officer David Cram said. “According to the occupants, a dog ran out in front of them and as a result they … ended up 30 feet off of the road in the woods.”

Amy Rich of Medway, who was driving, and Tiana Stanley of East Millinocket were taken to Millinocket Regional Hospital after the 8:57 p.m. accident, in which the vehicle was demolished.

“Both complained of neck and back injuries but nothing was visible,” said Cram.

Neither teen was listed as a patient on Sunday, according to hospital officials.

Alcohol was not a factor, the chief said.
