Shead captures DAC title Richardson’s goal gives winning edge

WOODLAND – Skylar Richardson’s second-half goal lifted the Shead Tigerettes by the Woodland Dragons 2-1 for the Downeast Athletic Conference title in schoolgirl soccer action Saturday.

Patricia Candelmo gave Shead a lead in the first half with a goal off a Samantha Davis assist. Davis also assisted on Richardson’s winner. Brittany Cox had seven saves on 14 shots.

Woodland’s Kaitlyn Leeman tied the game in the first half. Alicia Vose assisted on the goal and Lauren Troiani stopped six of 10 shots.

Hermon 0, Orono 0 (2OT)

At Hermon Saturday, the host Hawks and Orono played to a double-overtime scoreless tie in their regular-season finale.

Shannon Wiggin had 11 saves on 13 shots for 3-5-6 Hermon. Marie Lint had 15 saves on 18 shots for 6-5-3 Orono.

JV: Orono 2-1

Highview 2, WA Raiders 2

At Charleston Friday, Alyssa Scott scored two goals to help Highview Christian battle to a double-overtime tie against the Washington Academy Raiders of East Machias.

Scott scored both goals in the first half, but WA responded with two in the first, also, to tie it.

Katie Mann assisted on one of Scott’s goals and the other was unassisted for 5-6-1 Highview. Danielle Day made eight saves on 15 shots.

Sara Rushforth scored an unassisted goal for the 2-10 Raiders and Kara Preston tied the game with 40 seconds left in the first half when she converted a Joy Grannis pass. Meghann Look made 15 saves on 24 shots.

Field hockey

Rockland 2, Nokomis 0

At Rockland, Caitlin Hynes and Caitlin Grant each scored a goal to lift the No. 8 Tigers by the No. 9 Warriors of Newport in an Eastern Maine Class B prelim.

The Tigers advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinal round when they will take on the top-seeded Winslow Black Raiders in Winslow.

Boys soccer

MDI 4, Bucksport 1

At MDI on Friday, Avi Gabel-Richards scored two goals to lead the Trojans past the Bucks.

Jake Megquier and Richard Hillard also added goals. Hillard and Booth Dargis helped with assists for 9-3-2 MDI.

Mike Orr scored the only goal for 0-14 Bucksport.

JV: MDI 5-0

Orono 2, Hermon 1

At Orono, Alysha Klose and Tom Smyth each shot in goals in the second half to give the Red Riots a 2-0 lead.

Tom Boyle and Tony Raymond both added assists. Matt Lint made three saves on five shots for 5-8-1 Orono.

Adam Gould scored late in the second half for the 9-3-2 Hawks. Corey Archer saved seven of nine shots.

JV: Hermon 1-0
