GREENVILLE, S.C. – General Electric announced plans Tuesday to cut 600 jobs at its gas turbine plant here in the next three to nine months. None of the estimated 500 jobs at the GE Power Systems facility near Bangor International Airport are affected by the new round of layoffs.

The company said the cuts are part of a 1,000-job reduction in the Energy Systems division as a result of a drop-off in orders for electricity producing turbines.

The division also will cut 400 jobs in Schenectady, N.Y.
