Big School (Classes A-B)

JOEY DEWITT

The Ellsworth senior won the Penobscot Valley Conference boys cross country championship, completing the 3.0-mile course in 16 minutes, 30 seconds. His closest competition was his brother, freshman Corey DeWitt, who finished 12 seconds back in second place.

Small School (Classes C-D)

MATT ALTVATER

The Shead senior won the state Class C individual golf championship, shooting a 5-over-par 77 at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro to score a one-stroke victory over four competitors. Altvater had two birdies and made a 15-foot-putt for par over the final three holes to become the Eastport school’s first state golf champion.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

MADDY GLOVER

The John Bapst sophomore won the Penobscot Valley Conference individual cross country championship, completing the 3-mile course in 19 minutes, 20 seconds, just one second faster than the second-place finisher. The Crusaders of Bangor finished in second place.

Small School (Classes C-D)

COLLEEN CLORAN

Cloran, a senior goalie on the Mattanawcook field hockey team, made nine saves on 10 shots as the Lynx of Lincoln beat Stearns of Millinocket 3-1 in a key Eastern Maine Class C matchup.
