Bapst upsets ‘Jammers

ROCKPORT – Alex Means scored off an assist from Brian Roach to lift the No. 10 John Bapst Crusaders to a 1-0 upset win over the No. 7 Camden Hills Windjammers in Class B boys soccer preliminary playoff action Wednesday afternoon.

Rick Hathaway saved ten of 11 shots for 8-7 John Bapst of Bangor. Morgan Kerr made nine saves on 11 shots for 7-6-2 Camden Hills.

Belfast 4, Caribou 0

At Belfast, Chris Williams scored 32 seconds into the game, setting a tone for the No. 8 Lions in a win over the No. 9 Vikings.

Diego Olivares had a goal and an assist for 10-4-1 Belfast. Adam Smith and Caleb Barnaby each chipped in with a goal. Aaron Cross had two assists and Brian Lovely added another. Collin Cunning stopped four of seven shots.

Brad Ala made 10 saves on 20 shots for 5-6-4 Caribou.

Presque Isle 6, Orono 2

At Presque Isle, Benji Lynch tallied three goals to power the No. 6 Wildcats past the No. 11 Red Riots.

Sean Daigle, Nate Carter and Sam Mathers each added a goal. Trevor Graves had three assists and Derek Belanger had two. Brad Baker made four saves on six shots for 10-2-3 Presque Isle.

Aloysha Klose and Tom Smyth both scored goals for 5-9-1 Orono. Mat Lint saved 15 of 25 shots he faced.

Class D

DI-Stonington 2, CAHS 1 (2OT)

At Mars Hill, Jeff Douglass scored on a breakaway with four minutes left in the second overtime, lifting the 14th-seeded Mariners to the upset victory on the No. 4 Panthers’ snow-covered field.

Nick Ciomei had staked Deer Isle-Stonington (6-6-3) to a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game with a goal off an assist from Bryan Ciomei. Robbie Haskell racked up 27 saves while facing 44 shots.

Freshman Sam Clockedile scored for 7-4-3 Central Aroostook off a scramble in front of the net, seven minutes into the second half. Adam Crew made two saves while facing six shots.

Southern Aroostook 5, Easton 1

At Easton, Travis Brooker scored two goals as the No. 10 Warriors knocked off the No. 7 Bears in about two inches of snow.

Griffin Hardy, Mike Lopez and Jon Holman added a goal apiece for 8-6-1 Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook. Jeff Boutilier had 10 saves.

Steven Hopkins recorded a goal for 7-4-4 Easton. Danny Warren had 25 saves.

Madawaska 4, Central 0

At Madawaska, Jon Cowie stopped four of five shots to help the No. 4 Owls blank the No. 11 Red Devils of Corinth.

Paul Michaud scored twice to lead 12-3 Madawaska’s offense. Michael Arnold and Myles Morneault each added goals of their own. Matt Bosse had two assists, while Paul Roy and Morneault each had one.

Joey Kane made eight saves on 13 shots for 4-10-1 Central.

Lee 5, Bangor Christian 3

At Lee, the No. 6 Pandas got goals from five different players en route to a win over the No. 11 Patriots.

Rick Kim scored off a Jake Kang pass for 9-6 Lee. Yun Jung, Andrew Stevens, Everett Houghton and Tom Bird added goals. Kris King stopped 16 of 19 shots.

D.J. McCleary knocked in two goals to lead 4-9-1 Bangor Christian and Josh Griffin added another. Ricky Shaw had 18 saves on 24 shots.

Calvary Chapel 3, Fort Fairfield 1

At Brewer, Rosaire Veilleux, Andrew Lowe and Brock Bradford each knocked in a goal as the No. 3 Sabres tipped the No. 12 Tigers.

Tyler Gans saved seven of 12 shots for 11-3-1 Calvary Chapel.

Fernando Costa recorded 7-7-1 Fort Fairfield’s goal. Tyler Bernaiche saved six of 14 shots.

Class C

Schenck 1, Calais 0

At East Millinocket, Aaron Waite scored the lone goal of the game in the first half with an assist from Jason Kimball to power the No. 8 Wolverines past the No. 9 Blue Devils.

Chad Nelson made 10 saves on 12 shots for 8-5-2 Schenck. Corey Johnston saved 14 of 24 shots for 6-5-2 Calais.

Penquis 2, George Stevens 1

At Milo, Jordan Allen scored both goals for the Patriots in the win.

Kevin Nason had 12 saves on 16 shots for 7-6-2 Penquis.

Kristian Kjaergaard scored off a pass from Will Rosenthal for the 6-6-3 Eagles of Blue Hill. Mark Ensworth and Colin Henry made 16 saves on 21 shots between them.

Machias 3, Washington Acad. 0

At East Machias, Austin Roberts tallied a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs beat the Raiders for the Downeast Athletic Conference title.

Chris Correll led Machias with two goals in the non-countable game, which came six days after Washington Academy beat previously undefeated Machias at the end of the regular season.

Marcus Frutchey made 17 saves on 19 shots for 11-1 Machias. Jeremy Gray saved eight of the 13 shot he faced for the 10-1 Raiders of East Machias.

Class A

Lawrence 5, Oxford Hills 0

At Fairfield, Brandon Grudda knocked in two goals and assisted on two more as the Bulldogs rolled.

Steve Grudda tallied two goals for 11-2-2 Lawrence while Dave Grudda added a goal plus an assist. Josh Saunders also had an assist. Nate Lovitz had four saves on five shots.

David LaRoach and Kyle Ingram combined to stop 14 out of 34 shots for the 5-8-2 Vikings of South Paris.

Waterville 1, Hampden 0

At Waterville, Tyler Dunn knocked in a free kick with 5:15 left in the first half to propel the No. 6 Panthers past the No. 11 Broncos.

Brendan LaMarre made nine saves on 11 shots for 9-2-4 Waterville, while Kenny Mayo stopped six of 16 shots for 10-5 Hampden.

Girls soccer

Class D

Bangor Chr. 4, Cal. Chapel 3

At Corinth, Amber Leathers and Adrienne Ricci each scored two goals to lead the Patriots by the Sabers.

Johannah Kutz had 14 saves on 17 shots for the 6-5-2 winners.

Chauntel Vellieux scored two goals and Monique Vellieux added another for 9-3-1 Calvary Chapel of Orrington. Jessica Graves stopped six out of 10 shots.

Shead 2, Fort Fairfield 1

At Eastport, Samantha Davis scored the game-winning goal with 61 seconds left in regulation as the No. 7 Tigerettes edged the No. 10 Tigers.

Celia Cummings assisted on Davis’ goal. Valerie Bowen gave 9-5-1 Shead a lead 10 minutes into the game when she scored on a penalty kick. Brittany Cox saved three of five shots.

Kerri Cunningham tied the game with 3:19 left for 5-8-2 Fort Fairfield. Dani Searles made 17 saves on 22 shots.

Class C

Schenck 2, Narraguagus 1

At Harrington, Courtney McLaughlin scored the game-winning goal with 10 minutes left in the second half to lift the No. 10 Wolverines past the No. 7 Knights.

Laura Davis scored off an assist from Jessica Day to tie the game in the first half. Megan Carey made nine saves on 10 shots for 6-8-1 Schenck of East Millinocket.

Amanda Kennedy scored 40 seconds into the game for 9-4-1 Narraguagus and Alicia Tenney stopped 15 of 23 shots.

Penobscot Valley 2, Central 0

At Howland, Tiffany Brown and Amanda Hallett each netted a goal for the No. 8 Howlers.

Ashley Dawson and Shannon Drost had one assist apiece. Jenn Plourde made six saves on 10 shots for 6-8-1 Penobscot Valley.

Catherine Melton saved 15 of 27 shots for the No. 9 Red Devils of Corinth (7-7).

Class A

Bangor 7, Lawrence 0

At Bangor, Serena Dubois registered two goals as the Rams rolled.

Laura Clarke and Hannah Whitney each had a goal and an assist for 12-1-2 Bangor. Kristin Bogan, Amanda Mooers and Erin Healey added a goal each and Jessie Roberts dished out three assists. Ilyse Angst stopped all three shots she faced.

Katie Mayo blocked 13 of 20 shots for the 6-9 Bulldogs of Fairfield.

Brunswick 4, Old Town 1

At Brunswick, Lauren Lemieux registered two goals to lead the Dragons past the Indians.

Heidi Mills notched a goal plus an assist for 11-2-2 Brunswick. Lily Shipley added a goal while Judy Guilbault and Megan Clement had assists. McKell Barnes and Lindsay Hammond made three saves on six shots between them.

Jenny Jones scored off a pass from Hannah Marquis for 6-8-1 Old Town. Whitney Carey had eight saves on 20 shots.

Class B

Hermon 2, Bucksport 1

At Bucksport, Cassie White scored twice in 13 seconds to give the 4-5-6 Hawks the win.

Megan Watson an Alliah Miller had assists for the winners. Shannon Wiggin had five saves on eight shots.

Lindsey Gordon scored the 5-8-2 Golden Bucks’ lone goal. Katie Hurd blocked three out of six shots.

Field hockey

Class A

Skowhegan 10, Mount Ararat 0

At Skowhegan, the senior captain and midfielder Jesse Corson scored four goals and assisted on another while leading the top-seeded, unbeaten Indians to victory.

Katy LePage had two goals and an assist while Zara Saydjari added two goals for the 15-0 Indians. Jess Dorman and Jennalee Tracy each scored one goal. Junior Carlee Evans notched her 12th shutout of the season with three saves on three shots.

Tiffany Bichrest made 15 saves on 39 shots for the 4-10-2 Eagles of Topsham.
