A man reported to Orono police that he woke up early Thursday to find a stranger standing in his bedroom.

Officer Scott Lajoie said that at about 3 a.m. the College Heights resident called police and said the mysterious visitor had asked him repeatedly, “Why are you here?”

The intruder was holding a pair of shoes, the complainant said, and left by the back door after the complainant repeatedly told him to “get the hell out of my house.”

Police found tracks in the slush leading to and from the complainant’s back door, Officer Lajoie said. Police officers from Orono, Old Town and the University of Maine looked for the intruder, Lajoie said, but could not find him.

Lajoie said there was no sign of forced entry. The complainant said the back door might have been unlocked. Nothing was taken, Lajoie said, and nobody was injured. The complainant had been alone at the time of the incident.

Orono police arrested an apparently intoxicated man from Somersworth, N.H., on Tuesday night.

Officer Scott Lajoie said that at about 9:45 p.m. a call was received from the Irving Mainway store on Stillwater Avenue to report that a man was stumbling around the store, after trying unsuccessfully to buy beer, and refused to leave. The man had driven a Jeep to the store, Lajoie said.

Lajoie said he and other officers went to the station and escorted Stephen Borodko, 46, outside. Asked what he had been drinking, Borodko said he’d had a sleeping pill and washed it down with a beer, Lajoie said. Lajoie said the officers suspected Borodko had had more to drink because of the strong smell of alcohol on his breath.

Borodko was too unsteady on his feet for sobriety tests, Lajoie said. He had no Maine driver’s license, and his license in New Hampshire had been revoked. He was arrested on charges of operating under the influence and operating after revocation.

Three plainclothes Bangor police officers summoned an Orono man for speeding and operating after suspension Wednesday night.

Officer Shawn Green reported that at about 8 p.m. he and Officers Myron Warner and Larry Morrill were on patrol in an unmarked vehicle on Union Street, near Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall, when they noticed a truck in front of them traveling at an unsafe speed.

Warner paced the truck at 60 mph in a 25-mph zone.

Green spoke with the driver, Brian Kennedy, 37, of Orono, and said he smelled alcohol coming from the truck. Kennedy told Green he had had only two beers and, after sobriety tests, Green determined Kennedy was not intoxicated.

Green said Kennedy’s license was suspended. Green summoned Kennedy on charges of operating after suspension and speeding 29 mph over the limit. He told Kennedy that he was getting a break by not being arrested or being charged with criminal speeding. Green said Kennedy was appreciative and respectful throughout the encounter.

Brewer police arrested an alleged drunken driver Wednesday night after he forgot to turn his headlights on.

Officer Nelson Feero said that at about 10 p.m. he stopped a car on South Main Street near Elm Street. Feero said it originally appeared that one headlight and both taillights on the car were malfunctioning.

He later noticed that the headlights had not been turned on at all, and that what he had seen was the daytime running lights, one of which was broken.

Feero said he also noticed the smell of alcohol coming from the car. After administering sobriety tests, Feero arrested the driver, Russell Green, 38, of Orrington, for operating under the influence. Feero said Green was very cooperative.
