Prentiss, Heber power Rams past Messalonskee

OAKLAND – Senior running backs Mike Prentiss and Tyler Heber combined for five touchdowns to lead Bangor to a 33-7 high school football victory over Messalonskee on Friday night.

The victory in the regular-season finale propels the Rams into next week’s PTC quarterfinal round.

Prentiss rushed for the first three touchdowns on runs of 9, 7, and 1 yards and Heber finished up with TD runs of 37 and 3 yards.

Bangor rolled up 307 total yards, 279 on the ground. Quarterback Shaun Sullivan completed 3 of 6 passes for 28 yards.

Bangor coach Mark Hackett was pleased with his team’s effort, especially in the second half, as the Rams overcame some cold weather and a muddy field.

“Our kick game really came through on a cold, muddy night,” Hackett said. “Our fronts, both offensively and defensively, were strong, also.”

Bangor punter P.J. Dowe and kicker Ryan Toomey pinned the Eagles back into their own territory and it was difficult for them to overcome the poor field position, Hackett explained.

The victory gives the Rams a boost heading into the playoffs, especially since the team is healthy, Hackett said.

“We’re fresh and healthy. We were able to give Tyler quite a few carries tonight,” he said. “We look good across the board as far as healthiness.”

Senior halfback Mike Savage scored on a 1-yard TD for Messalonskee, which finished with 207 total yards.
