BANGOR – The Bowdoin College Polar Bears defeated Husson 9-1 in field hockey action Tuesday, snapping the Braves’ seven-game winning streak.
Christi Gagnon, Faye Hargate and Margaret Gormley scored unassisted for the Polar Bears of Brunswick. Taryn King added a goal and assisted on goals by Brittany Carr and Marisa O’Neil. King’s goal was assisted by O’Neil.
Colleen McDonald, Gessy LaPage and Allyson Craib also scored on assists by Faye Hargate, Ali Sozio and O’Neil, respectively. Gillian McDonald made three saves on five shots for 10-2 Bowdoin.
Sara McIntire scored for 10-4 Husson and Jamie Giles faced 22 shots and made 13 saves.
Volleyball
New Hampshire 3, Maine 1
At Memorial Gym in Orono, the Black Bears notched 18 kills for a 30-27 win in the first game, but the Wildcats rebounded with wins of 30-23, 30-28, 30-25 to capture the match.
Sophomore Leah Guidinger led the Black Bears with 13 kills. Freshman Justine Chabot recorded 21 assists while classmate Shelly Scipp notched 20 assists and two service aces. Sophomore Kaili Jordan had 17 digs.
Alyson Coler paced UNH with 22 kills and an .268 attack percentage.
UNH improved to 16-10 overall and 7-1 in America East while Maine fell to 10-16 and 1-7.
The Black Bears continue America East action this weekend when they travel to face Hartford (Conn.) on Friday and Stony Brook (N.Y.) on Saturday. They return home on Nov. 14 to face Albany at 7 p.m. in Memorial Gym.
