Police in Waterville arrest actor Aidan Quinn for OUI

WATERVILLE – Actor Aidan Quinn was stopped Saturday, Oct. 25, for driving his rental vehicle erratically. This led to his arrest for operating under the influence of intoxicants.

Waterville police Officer Steve Pelletier stopped Quinn, 44, at 2:08 a.m. driving a Chevrolet Impala on Kennedy Memorial Drive, and he was arrested 20 minutes later, according to Chief John Morris.

Morris said Quinn was released on bail and is due for arraignment November 19 at the Waterville District Court.

Quinn, who resides in Englewood, N.J., is in Maine filming “Empire Falls.” Police officials said it was not reported where the actor was staying while in the area. After being taken into custody, Quinn was given a Breathalyzer test, which recorded a blood alcohol level that exceeded Maine’s legal limit of 0.08.

Filming for “Empire Falls” started Sept. 8 and should end by mid-November. The movie, based on Maine author Richard Russo’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, is about a Maine mill town struggling through the shutdown of its shirt factory. Quinn plays David, who owns a gym.

In 1984 Quinn made his cinema debut starring opposite Daryl Hannah in “Reckless.” His breakthrough role came a year later in “Desperately Seeking Susan,” where he acted alongside Rosanna Arquette and Madonna.

A host of Hollywood actors have converged on the town for the “Empire Falls” production. Along with Quinn and Harris are Paul Newman, Helen Hunt, Joanne Woodward, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright Penn.

Portions of the movie are being filmed in and around Skowhegan and Waterville.

The movie will be shown on HBO in 2005, according to the company’s officials.
