BANGOR – A Penobscot County jury on Friday found the owner of a Stetson stable guilty of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl who had attended his summer camp.

Mark Merrill was charged with five separate counts of assault on five different girls, all in their early teens. The cases were separated in order to be tried individually.

Merrill pleaded no contest to one of the charges. The other three charges are expected to be dismissed, according to Assistant District Attorney Alice Clifford.

The judge ordered an evaluation by a forensic psychologist or psychiatrist as part of the pre-sentence report.

The case first went to trial in August, but ended in a mistrial because the jury was not able to reach a verdict.

Merrill is the owner of Nag-A-Bon Acres stable.
