Bangor police summoned a woman Thursday after she allegedly stole an elderly woman’s credit cards.

Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, a worker at the Best Buy electronics store on Bangor Mall Boulevard told her that a man and a woman, both about 20 years old, had tried to buy about $2,000 worth of electronics. They offered three credit cards in turn, two of which were declined.

When the worker asked for identification before trying a third card, the customers said they didn’t have any and took off running.

The man said he looked up the name on the card and telephoned the cardholder. A woman answered and told him the cards belonged to an elderly woman who had been in the hospital for two months, and that she had lost three credit cards.

The same woman later told Officer Libby that some of her daughter’s friends matched the description of the suspects. The woman told Libby that her daughter, Kristy Dickinson, 19, might be found at Pickering Square.

Libby said that on Thursday she met a woman matching Dickinson’s description, and although the woman at first denied being Dickinson, later admitted her identity when Libby threatened to phone her mother.

Libby said Dickinson confessed to stealing the credit cards. Dickinson allegedly said she had two friends try to buy the electronics at Best Buy so she could pawn them because she needed the money. Dickinson was charged with theft and failing to give a correct name.

At the station, Dickinson told Libby she didn’t know her friends’ full names. She also didn’t know where they lived or where to find them because they were homeless.

Brewer police arrested a man after he allegedly beat up his housemate Thursday night.

Cpl. Richard Smith said that at about 8:15 p.m. he and Officers Paul Gauvin and Rodney Gerald went to an Elm Street address.

Witnesses told the officers that Michael Boucher, 18, who lived there, had gotten into an argument with another resident and started choking him and beating him in the face.

Smith said the officers found Boucher in the back yard. He first swore at Smith and refused to cooperate but eventually admitted assaulting his housemate, Smith said.

Boucher was arrested and charged with assault. The alleged victim was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Bangor police arrested a man Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.

Officer Kerry Libby reported that at about 3:20 p.m. she and Officer George Spencer went to a Spring Street apartment building for an assault report.

Libby said the complainant and her young son were staying at their neighbor’s apartment to get away from the complainant’s boyfriend, Saunders Winbush, 40, of Bangor.

The woman told Libby that she and Winbush had gotten into a fight.

The complainant’s neighbor said she heard the argument through the wall.

Libby said the complainant told her Winbush punched her in the neck. Libby said she could see a red mark below the woman’s left ear.

The complainant told Libby that Winbush had threatened her with a steak knife two days earlier. She said she stayed in the relationship because she is terrified of Winbush.

Libby said that at about 4:30 p.m., Officer James Dearing found Winbush on State Street and arrested him. Libby spoke with Winbush’s probation officer, Leo Collins, to arrange a probation hold.

Winbush was still at Penobscot County Jail Friday night.
