We want to publicly thank [teacher] Mark Savage and [volunteer] Donald Dyer and especially the students involved in the Outdoor Education program at Brewer High School.
On a recent hiking trip to Gulf Hagas one of the cars in our group got stranded due to hitting a rock in the road and getting a large hole in the oil pan. Fortunately, we met up with Dyer and some of the Brewer High School students. They not only helped us out of a difficult situation (it was raining and cold, and we were soaked), but greeted us with warmth and comfort. They took us back to their lodge where there was a warm fire and the students brought us hot chocolate.
We were lucky that Dyer was going back to Brewer so he gave the four children in our party a ride there. He also loaned two of the girls a pair of his pants so they wouldn’t have to put their wet, cold ones on.
Being a good Samaritan might not have been in the lesson plan but Brewer students received a hidden message. Thank you, Brewer Outdoor Education.
