NEWPORT – Newport police are investigating a possible abduction attempt and assault Sunday afternoon at Nokomis Regional High School.
Very little information was available at press time, but Officer Alan Graves said he had responded to the school about 2:30 p.m. when a karate competition was taking place.
Graves said he was investigating an assault by an adult male on a group of juveniles.
“Likely, we are looking at a single assault,” he said.
The incident was reported as an attempted abduction, he confirmed and added, “That is still a possibility.”
Graves said he had taken statements from a number of people attending the competition and that no one had been arrested or charged.
“This investigation is ongoing,” he said.
