Community effort leads to Machias title
Congratulations to the Machias Bulldog Eastern Maine championship boys soccer team and coach Bob Sinford for an outstanding season. Thank you for entertaining us with both your composed and well-educated play this fall. The shutout over Calvary Christian and the come-from-behind rally to beat Washburn revealed the true grit of this scrappy team and the fact that these boys can play with the best of them.
But it’s not just the players who are to be congratulated. Since the sixth grade on South Field, members of this same championship team were being transported by patient and dedicated parents and coached by volunteer moms and dads wanting to enhance the quality of these young lives. These players were learning good sportsmanship, important ballhandling skills, but most of all, how to be a team player.
Those parents, grandparents, coaches, athletic boosters, teachers, friends, and fellow students fortunate enough to witness the explosive play by this well-oiled group of student-athletes Saturday afternoon did so with pride because this team is a reflection of the heart and soul of this community.
Good luck in the state final.
