Kirsten Costa
University of Maine field hockey player Kristen Costa was named American East Rookie of the week. Costa scored her first goal of the season in the Black Bears 7-0 win over Albany. On the season she has played in 14 games with two starts and has one goal and two assists.
Cait Cleaver
Cait Cleaver of Colby’s volleyball team, was named New England Small College Athletic Conference Player of the Week. She averaged 4.2 kills and 3.1 digs per game in the Mules’ 3-0 week. Cleaver had 17 kills, 15 digs, five service aces and four blocks in Colby’s league win over Tufts. She also had 18 kills and seven digs in a victory over Amherst. Averaging 4.3 kills per game in NESCAC conference matches this season. Cleaver also went over 700 career kills and now has 737 in just two seasons.
Lara Smart
University of Maine women’s ice hockey goaltender Lara Smart was named Defensive Player of the Week. She stopped 55 of 58 shots that she faced over two games at Yale, posting a 1.50 goals against average and a .948 save percentage on the weekend. She made 26 saves in a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs and stopped 29 shots in the 2-2 tie on Sunday. Smart in 1-3-2 on the season with a 2.77 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. She is averaging 30.7 saves per game.
Heather Hathorn
University of Maine women’s soccer player Heather Hathorn was named America East Co-Player of the Week. She led the Black Bears to a 2-0-0 weekend and secured a spot for Maine in the upcoming America East Tournament. Hathorn scored a school record four goals in UMaine’s 5-1 win over Vermont. She also tied the UMaine record for point in a game with eight and opened the week with a goal in the Black Bear’s 6-0 win over Albany.
Kerry Leonard
Freshman Kerry Leonard of the University of Southern Maine’s field hockey team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for her outstanding play. The rookie forward/back had a pair of goals and one assist to help the Huskies to win over St. Joseph’s College (Maine) and Bridgewater State College. Leonard has scored five goals, including two game winners, and been credited with two assists this season.
