Writer’s goods to be auctioned in Blue Hill

Perhaps “thrilled” is not an adequate word to describe the news that Candy Eaton of the Blue Hill Society for Aid to Children wrote me about, but let it suffice for now.

BHSAC is sponsoring a consignment sale of sports, athletic and outdoor gear 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Legion Hall on Main Street in Blue Hill.

Items can be delivered to BHSAC anytime since it has storage space at its clubhouse in Blue Hill.

You can call the BHSAC office to arrange to drop off items and fill out your price tags, or you can bring your articles to the Legion Hall from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. BHSAC will sell all equipment relating to every sport you can imagine, with the exception of guns. Sports clothing is acceptable as well, and owners of the consignment items can price their own merchandise.

At the conclusion of the sale, BHSAC will take a 25 percent commission and owners will receive their 75 percent within a week to 10 days of the sale. Items not sold the day of the sale must be picked up from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, at the Legion Hall.

Now, here’s that thrilling news I mentioned.

The BHSAC has received “a wonderful addition to this sale,” Eaton wrote.

“We were just given a substantial number of furniture pieces and household items from the estate of an internationally known children’s book author-illustrator” whose identity will remain anonymous.

Included in this donation are “two beds, dressers, a sideboard, Windsor style chairs, tables, glassware, a television and VCR, a microwave, radio, and two autographed books, etc.,” Eaton wrote, adding with her usual enthusiasm: “There is a lot of good stuff!”

The items will be presented in a silent auction, which will be conducted during the used sports equipment sale. However, bidding for the silent auction items closes at 1 p.m.

Obviously, this is an exciting addition to this particular sale – one that should draw people with a multitude of interests other than sports.

I am looking forward to learning the results of this special fund-raiser that will help BHSAC support its two summer programs, Nichols Day Camp and Scamp Camp. For more information about the sale, call BHSAC at 374-5548.

Writing for those associated with the Phillips-Strickland House, Gale Longo invites the public to attend its annual holiday fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at PHS, 21 Boyd St. in Bangor.

Baked goods, a white elephant table, holiday items and “much more will be available,” Longo wrote.

An auction, beginning at 2 p.m., will feature “some wonderful items” that would make excellent holiday gifts, she added, and “Cafe Noel will open at 11 a.m. with homemade chowder and sandwiches.”

Proceeds benefit the activities fund for PSH residents.

Sincere congratulations are extended to those responsible for helping make Lincolnville’s Grand Land Raffle a sold-out success.

One thousand Grand Land Raffle tickets were sold to support the Lincolnville Central School capital campaign, and ticket sales are now closed, reports Amy Rollins.

The grand drawing, in which one ticket holder will win a 2.3-acre wooded lot on High Street outside Lincolnville Center, will be part of a celebration 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Youngtown Inn in Lincolnville.

The event features live music, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The drawing is set for 5 p.m., when someone will win a lot appraised at $34,500.

Attendance at the drawing is not necessary to win, but “all are welcome to come and share in the celebration and the excitement,” Rollins wrote.

Today is the day we exercise one of our most precious rights, responsibilities and privileges of citizenship, and all it takes is a visit to your local polling place.

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, please take the time, today, to vote.

And, for all those voters in Willimantic, be sure to stop by the food sale table beginning at 10 a.m. on Election Day at Willimantic Town Hall.

Proceeds from the food sale benefit the Willimantic Civic Association.

Your vote benefits us all!
