EASTBROOK – A chimney fire at a resident’s house caused no damage Tuesday but serves as a reminder to people to have their chimneys cleaned out, according to Fire Chief Rick McNeil.
McNeil said Tuesday’s chimney fire, at the home of his mother, Doris McNeil on Abbott Lane, could have set the house on fire if firefighters had not responded in time. With colder weather setting in, it is important for people to have their chimneys cleaned out, he said.
McNeil said the Fire Department plans to clean out his mother’s chimney after the embers in it have gone out completely.
Anyone in Eastbrook who needs a chimney cleaned should call him at 565-8907, McNeil said. He said he and other firefighters plan to offer the service to Eastbrook residents on Saturday.
“We do it to prevent us from having to go out in the middle of the night for a chimney fire,” McNeil said.
