LEICESTER, Mass. – Kristi Veazie scored off an Angie White assist with 20:24 left in the game to help fourth-ranked University of Maine-Farmington upset No. 1 Becker 2-1 in an NAC field hockey semifinal Tuesday.

UMF advanced to Saturday’s final when it will play the winner of Western New England College vs. Simmons College.

Mary Berry scored a first-half goal for 11-7 UMF off a penalty stroke. Ashleigh Biette made seven saves on nine shots.

Brianna Ellis scored off a Elizabeth Hathaway assist in the first half for 17-3 Becker. Brook Robichaud made seven saves on 11 shots.

At Gorham, sophomore Kayla Vaughan of Monroe scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Huskies into the semifinals of the Little East Conference tournament.

Vaughan scored twice in the first 10 minutes to pace 15-5 Southern Maine, which won its eighth straight game. The Huskies face Plymouth State in a Friday semifinal at Keene State (N.H.).

Renee Heath provided a goal and an assist while Kim Purington and Sarah Dolley added goals for the winners. Jessie Superchi made one save to notch her 10th shutout of the season.

Lindsay McKearney made 10 saves for 6-9 Framingham State.

Syracuse 94, Team Nike 82

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Hakim Warrick scored 21 points and Billy Edelin added 16 to lead defending national champion Syracuse past Team Nike 94-82 in an exhibition game Tuesday night.

It was the Orangemen’s first game without star forward Carmelo Anthony, now a rookie with the Denver Nuggets, but it didn’t take them long to break open the game against a team of former college players.

Syracuse took command with a 15-2 run in a three-minute span late in the first half.

After a 3-pointer by former West Virginia guard Lionel Armstead and a layup by former Wisconsin forward Charles Wills helped pull Team Nike within 27-26 at 7:57, Gerry McNamara hit three 3-pointers in 48 seconds, his only points of the game, to give Syracuse a 10-point lead.

Warrick followed with two baskets, a spinning jumper in the lane and another jumper from the right side, and McNamara finished the surge by feeding Edelin for a fast-break layup to give Syracuse a 42-28 lead with 4:33 left.
