BANGOR – Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day. The day’s events in Bangor include:
. Veterans Day Parade, 10:15 a.m., line up at Brewer Shopping Mall. Beginning at 9:45 a.m., Advanced Auto Parts will provide a warm space for veterans to wait until the parade begins.
At 9:15 a.m., buses will be at Bangor’s Exchange Street parking lot to transport veterans to Brewer. The last bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. Veterans planning to ride a bus during the parade may leave vehicles in the Exchange Street parking lot or Brewer Hannaford lot.
In Brewer, the parade will go down Wilson Street, cross the Chamberlain Bridge to Bangor, and turn right down Main Street to the reviewing stand at Broad Street Square. After a brief ceremony, the parade will continue onto State, then Exchange Street, where it will disband at the Fleet Bank building.
. After the parade, the Cole Land Transportation Museum will present awards at 12:30 p.m. to six area school children who are winners in the essay contest, “What Freedom Means to Me after Interviewing a Veteran.”
. The Bangor Band will give a concert at 2 p.m. at Cole Land Transportation Museum, 405 Perry Road.
Officials at the Cole Museum point out that the State of Maine Purple Heart monument, donated by the State and National Military Order of the Purple Heart, is located on the museum’s lawn near the World War II Memorial. The monument is “Dedicated to All Men and Women Wounded in All Our Wars.”
