Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department officers charged two men and a woman with burglary Friday morning in Garland.

Detective Bill Flagg said that at about 9 a.m., Deputy Josh Tibbetts went to a house on Route 94 where a burglary was reportedly in progress.

Flagg said a relative of the homeowner had driven into the lot and saw a strange car parked there. She said that as she approached, two men fled from the house into the woods, and a woman drove the strange car away.

Maine State Trooper Chris Carr helped track the men with a K-9 unit, Flagg said, while the Maine Warden Service provided extra personnel and an aircraft. Flagg said the male suspects were caught about two hours later, as they left a house down the road that they had also broken into. Flagg said the men had changed into clothes stolen from the second house.

Flagg said the female driver also was arrested, after the two men called for a ride.

Flagg said Sgt. Keith Mercier and Detectives John Trask and Rick Canarr all assisted in the investigation.

Based on the findings of the investigation, Edward Pierce, 22, of Hudson and Kevin LaHaye, 30, of Bangor each were charged with two counts of burglary and one count of theft. Stacie Hichborn, 30, of Bangor was charged with theft.

“It’s that time of year again,” Flagg said, referring to an apparently seasonal increase in burglaries.

Flagg said the Sheriff’s Department encourages residents to give them a call if they see anything suspicious in their neighborhood.

A woman diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease wandered away from medical offices in Bangor Friday. She was found across town a few hours later, apparently disoriented and tired but otherwise all right.

Daphine Conley, 78, went with her husband to the Norumbega Medical offices on Husson Avenue but walked away while her husband was inside, according to police. Police were notified of the missing woman at about 12:30 p.m.

Police searching for Conley also called for the warden service to deploy searchers in the area, and for local agencies to be on the lookout for Conley. She was wearing a hat with her name spelled out in big letters, helping to identify her.

Hampden police Officer Joel Small located Conley walking on Route 1A, also called Main Road North, by Crestwood Mobile Home Park. She reportedly told Small that she was headed to Presque Isle and that she was tired. Small told her that she was going in the wrong direction and offered to help her out, he said. She said she welcomed the assistance and ride.

Small took her to the Hampden police station about 2:45 p.m. where a Bangor police officer met them and took Conley back to Bangor where she lives.

Bangor police arrested a Frankfort woman early Friday on a domestic assault charge.

Officer Kevin MacLaren reported that at 3 a.m. he went to the Main Street Inn, where some people reportedly were causing a disturbance.

MacLaren knocked on the door, which was opened by a Kelly Burrill, 19, or Frankfort. Burrill waited outside while MacLaren spoke with her boyfriend, who was sitting in the corner inside the room.

The man said he and Burrill had been drinking and started arguing. He said Burrill had slapped him and pulled his hair, whereupon he pushed her away. The man said it was no big deal, and that he was a man and could handle being hit.

MacLaren said he then spoke with Burrill, who admitted she slapped her boyfriend and pulled his hair. She said she became angry when he called her a name.

Burrill was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
