BOSTON – Amie Dubois netted an unassisted goal with 22:01 left to pace the No. 3 University of Maine a 2-0 win over No. 2 New Hampshire in America East field hockey tournament semifinal action Friday.
Maine advanced to Sunday’s championship game against top-seeded Northeastern in Boston.
Kasey Spencer scored on a Rachel Hilgar assist at 69:46 for 15-5 Maine. Jaye Lance stopped the only shot that she faced.
Christina Buckley made six saves on nine attempts for 10-11 New Hampshire.
USM 2, Plymouth State 1
At Keene, N.H., Renee Heath scored the game’s first goal at 4:54 in the first half and assisted the second goal at 9:42 to help lead No. 3 Southern Maine past No. 2 Plymouth State in Little East Conference semifinal action.
Kerry Leonard netted a goal on a Heath assist to put the 16-5 Huskies up 2-0. Deedra Boudreau assisted on the first goal and Jessie Superchi stopped six of seven shots.
Lilly Silva scored on a Annie Metz assist at 19:01 to bring the 12-6 Panthers within one. Kerry Brady made eight saves on 10 attempts.
Volleyball
Maine 3, UMBC 0
At Baltimore, Leah Guidinger had 16 kills to lead Maine past Maryland Baltimore County, 30-16, 30-26, 30-16.
Brooke Truong had 10 digs for the 13-18 Black Bears, Alaina Kleparek had four service aces, and Brittany Howe added 13 kills.
Jocelyn Teoh had 15 kills and 10 digs to lead 14-16 UMBC. Jennifer Davis had seven digs and Julia Waclawiak had three service aces.
Women’s hockey
Brown 1, Maine 0
At Providence, R.I., Katie Guay scored an unassisted first-period goal and Katie Germain made 25 saves to lift Brown to its season-opening win over Maine.
Lara Smart kept the Black Bears in the game as she made 38 saves on 39 shots. Maine is now 1-4-2.
