Police arrest suspect in Biddeford shooting

BIDDEFORD – A suspect in what police described as a drug-related shooting in Portland was arrested early Sunday, a day after the victim was found lying in the street.

Pedro Santiago, 30, was arrested without incident at about 2 a.m. at an apartment in Biddeford, Portland police said. No further details of Santiago’s arrest or his address were immediately available.

Santiago was wanted for attempted murder in the shooting of Josh Dyer, 20, of Portland. Dyer was shot in the head and was found lying in the street at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday on the city’s east end.

Dyer was in critical condition Sunday at Maine Medical Center, a nursing supervisor at the Portland hospital said.

Police said the shooting was drug-related.

“Apparently Santiago sought out Dyer, went to his residence, there was an argument out in the street and Dyer was shot in the head,” Portland Police Chief Michael Chitwood said.

“More and more of the people involved in drug trafficking in our city are carrying guns,” Chitwood added.
