NORTHEAST HARBOR – The U.S. post office will reinstate midday office hours, U.S. Sen. Susan Collins announced recently.

The post office will remain open 12:30-2 p.m. The new hours will take effect Nov.17.

The news follows customer concerns about recent decisions to close the service windows during those hours.

Postal officials are continuing to review the adjustments in hours of operation that many post offices have implemented over the past year.

Postmaster General John Potter last week discussed those operational changes and Postal Service reform recommendations during a hearing before the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, which Collins heads. The committee has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service.
