Two armed men reportedly entered a home in Passadumkeag Monday night in search of prescription painkillers. They made off with the drugs but not without a scuffle.

Sgt. Keith Mercier, of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, said that at about 11:30 p.m., two men in hooded sweat shirts entered a St. John’s Road house via an unlocked door.

At home were two adult women, a mother and daughter, who said the men were armed with a small baseball bat and at least one knife. The man of the house had a prescription for the pain medication OxyContin, Mercier said, and the intruders asked the women where the drugs and money were.

Mercier said the mother, enraged at the intruders, loosed a large Rottweiler on them and also grabbed one of the men. The intruders fled, but not before one of them managed to stab the dog twice. Mercier said the dog will probably be all right.

The men reportedly took 40 to 50 OxyContin pills. The daughter received small cuts on her arms, but it doesn’t appear they came from a knife, Mercier said.

Mercier said Maine State Trooper Barry Meserve tracked the men, with the help of a K-9 unit, down the road to where they apparently drove off in a car. Deputy Quinton Goodall is also assisting in the investigation.

Bangor police are investigating a robbery of a pizza delivery driver that occurred Monday night.

Lt. Tim Reid reported that at about 8:20 p.m., a driver for Spanky’s Pizza went to a State Street apartment, where he was threatened with a weapon.

Reid said that the driver was not injured, but money was taken from him. The police have several good leads, Reid said.

Brewer police arrested a man after a passer-by reportedly witnessed him hitting his girlfriend early Monday.

Cpl. Richard Smith reported that at about 2 a.m., a caller said a man had just hit a woman at the intersection of North Main and Wilson streets. Smith went to the area, and found a woman walking on the bridge.

Smith said the woman told him her boyfriend, Edward Hewes, 25, of Brewer, had just assaulted her. Smith said he and Officer Tony Pinette found Hewes in the same area.

Smith said Hewes admitted that they had had an argument that became physical. Hewes was arrested and charged with domestic assault.

A Hampden teenager reportedly caused a three-car accident Monday afternoon in Brewer.

According to police reports, a 17-year-old girl was driving out of Brewer on North Main Street, near Broadlawn Drive, when her 2-door Hyundai rear-ended a stopped Ford Contour driven by a Clifton woman.

The Ford then collided with a stopped Chevrolet Blazer, the report said, driven by a woman from Fairhaven, New Brunswick, who had stopped for some children crossing the road.

The drivers of the Ford and the Chevrolet were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Damage to the Hyundai was estimated at more than $3,000; the Ford, about $2,000; and the Chevrolet, about $600, the report said.

The girl driving the Hyundai had reportedly been adjusting her radio just before the collision.
